Leading the Future-Focused Church

Thu, Nov 21st 2024 · OnlineGiving.org

Imagine a church where the next generation isn't just sitting in the pews but actively shaping the future of the ministry. That’s the vision of a future-focused church. According to a recent Barna study, 3 out of 5 pastors say their church is future-focused. Where do you stand?

What Does It Mean to Be Future-Focused?

The Barna report defines a future-focused church as one that envisions where it wants to go and actively engages its congregation—especially the next generation—in shaping that future. It’s about being open to new tools, tactics, and approaches to connect meaningfully with a changing world.

“In a world shaped by technology, social media, and cultural change, reaching younger generations might require adopting innovative methods,” the report states. This means rethinking some traditional models. The report continues, "Whether through digital platforms for ministry, new styles of worship, or data-driven approaches to discipleship, future-focused leaders are willing to rethink traditional models to stay relevant while staying true to the gospel." 1.

Are You Equipped to Be Future-Focused?

At OnlineGiving.org, one of our core values is helping churches stay future-focused by providing tools that enable communication and engagement. One client shared, “I see new things every time I visit the OG dashboard of tools. I see improvements, new features, better reporting, etc. All the main things we want, we are getting with OnlineGiving.org.”

But being future-focused isn’t just about having tools—it’s about knowing how to use them. That’s why we also provide guidance to help churches integrate technology into their ministry strategies. For example, in our post "Cultivating Generosity Without Traditional Appeals", we shared 19 actionable ideas to inspire generosity in modern congregations.

Overcoming Barriers to Change

Why aren’t the other two out of five pastors future-focused? Often, it comes down to fear of using new technology. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by options and unsure where to start. At OnlineGiving.org, we prioritize customer support to help churches overcome this hurdle.

One partner shared, “I’ve never been involved with better customer service—not just in church business, but anywhere. The people are friendly, and they answer me quickly.” Another noted, “OG has been very responsive whenever I have a question or issue. Their team makes you feel valued and ensures you’re satisfied.”

Taking the Next Step

For a church to survive and thrive, it must be future-focused. That’s not easy in today’s fast-paced world, but it’s essential to adapt to cultural and technological changes while staying rooted in the gospel.
