We’re excited to announce an enhancement to the Auto Responder Message Segment Visualization tool in the OnlineGiving.org Control Panel’s Text Marketing section. This update improves how church administrators can preview and understand how their messages will be segmented by different cell phone carriers.

What’s New?

  • Twilio’s Latest Recommendations – The tool now incorporates the latest best practices from Twilio, including updated guidance on special characters, message segmentation, and character limits.
  • Enhanced Special Character Detection – We've expanded detection capabilities to highlight special characters that could increase message segments. This helps communication teams make more informed choices when crafting messages.
  • Updated Messaging Guidance – The tool now provides clearer explanations about message limits. While Twilio allows messages up to 1,600 characters, individual cell carriers impose their own undocumented restrictions. To ensure reliable delivery, we recommend keeping messages under 320 characters whenever possible.

This enhancement helps communication administrators visualize and optimize message length, minimizing unnecessary segmentation while ensuring that important content reaches recipients effectively.
