Consent That Stays in Sync: Automatic MinistryPlatform Texting Opt-Out Intelligence

What's New

When a person texts STOP, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE to your OnlineGiving.org church's number, OnlineGiving.org now automatically updates their MinistryPlatform Contact record to reflect the opt-out. Likewise, when someone texts START, YES, or UNSTOP to re-subscribe, their MP Contact is updated to reflect the opt-in. This keeps your MP database in sync with real-time texting consent changes without any manual work. *Feature automatically enabled anytime one or more MP Publication is imported or has already been imported into OnlineGiving.org Text Marketing. 

If you have imported a MP Campaign into OnlineGiving.org Text Marketing, this now happens automatically — there's nothing you need to set up or manage.

What's New

• Automatic opt-out sync to MinistryPlatform — When a STOP keyword is received, the matched MP Contact(s) are updated with Do_Not_Text = true and Texting Opt In Type = Opted Out.

• Automatic re-opt-in sync to MinistryPlatform — When a START keyword is received, the matched MP Contact(s) are updated with Do_Not_Text = false and Texting Opt In Type = Single Opt-In.

• Blacklist-aware publication import — When new phone numbers are imported from an MP Publication into a phone list, any number that is on OnlineGiving.org's internal opt-out blacklist is automatically imported with an opted-out status, even if it appears active in MP. OnlineGiving.org always preserves the highest level of opt-out.

• Multi-format phone matching — MP Contacts are matched using multiple phone number formats (e.g., 843-560-9531, 8435609531, 18435609531) to account for variations in how numbers are stored across different MP instances.

• All matching contacts updated — If multiple MP Contacts share the same mobile phone number, all of them are updated — not just the first match. This ensures full compliance coverage for shared numbers.

• Automatic field mapping — Texting Opt In Type IDs are resolved dynamically from your MP instance's Texting Opt In Types lookup table. No manual configuration or ID mapping is required.

How It Works

This feature activates automatically for any church that has linked one or more phone lists to an MP Publication. No additional setup is needed — if you're already syncing phone lists from MP Publications, consent sync is enabled. Churches without linked publications are not affected.
