Direct Check Scanning With Bank Deposit Slip: Now Available
What's New
You already know our check scanning -- connect your scanner, load your checks, and the system reads each one, matches donors, suggests funds, and records transactions. Churches that use remote deposit also get electronic bank deposit built in.
Now, that same powerful check scanning experience is available without the remote deposit requirement.
We call it Direct Check Scanning -- all the speed, accuracy, and intelligence of OnlineGiving.org check scanning, without needing an electronic deposit account. Scan your checks, record the transactions, print a professional Deposit Slip, and take the physical checks to your bank. Done.
Same scanner. Same AI matching. Same fund detection. No remote deposit setup required.
For churches already using remote deposit, nothing changes -- you still have full electronic deposit. But now you also have the flexibility to scan a batch in record-only mode whenever you prefer to take checks to the bank yourself.
Where to Find It
Direct Check Scanning is in the same place it has always been:
Giving > Check Scanning
Any administrator with Giving Admin access can use it. If your church has a check scanner on your network, you are ready to go -- no additional configuration needed.
Everything You Love About Check Scanning -- Without the Remote Deposit Requirement
Direct Check Scanning gives you the full OnlineGiving.org scanning experience:
- AI-powered OCR reads donor names, amounts, check numbers, and memo lines
- Intelligent donor matching finds the right member from your database and connected ChMS
- Smart fund detection suggests funds based on memo keywords and past giving history
- Multi-fund splits let you assign one check across multiple funds
- Front and back check images stored permanently on every transaction
- ChMS sync pushes transactions to MinistryPlatform, Rock RMS, Planning Center, and all supported platforms
The only difference? Your transactions are recorded as approved immediately -- no waiting for electronic deposit processing. You take the checks to your bank on your own schedule.
Why it matters: Many churches told us they wanted the speed and accuracy of scanner-based check entry but did not need or want electronic remote deposit. Maybe your bank does not support it, maybe your finance committee prefers physical deposits, or maybe you simply want a simpler setup. Now you have that option.
Print a Professional Deposit Slip for Your Bank
After submitting your scanned batch, generate a deposit slip with one click. Everything your bank teller needs is right there:
- Organization name and batch date
- Every check listed with check number, donor name, and amount
- Cash items listed separately with donor name and amount
- Subtotals for checks and cash, plus a grand total
- Draft watermark on open batches so you always know when a slip is final
Save it as PDF (landscape layout, minimal margins), export to Excel or CSV for your bookkeeper, or Print a copy to take to the bank.
The deposit slip is also available for your Quick Entry check and cash batches -- find it under the gear icon on the Batches page.
Why it matters: Your deposit slip is generated automatically from the checks you just scanned -- guaranteed to match your bank deposit to the penny. No handwriting, no calculator, no second-guessing whether you counted everything.
Choose Your Method Per Batch
For churches with remote deposit configured, you now have a choice on every batch. When you connect to your scanner, a clean toggle lets you pick:
- Remote Deposit -- Checks deposited electronically to your bank (existing workflow, unchanged)
- Record Only -- Checks recorded as transactions, you take them to the bank with your deposit slip
Switch between methods anytime. One batch can go electronic, the next can go to the bank in person. The choice is yours.
Why it matters: Different Sundays call for different workflows. Your regular finance admin uses remote deposit. Your backup volunteer on holiday weekends prefers taking checks to the bank. Now both people can use the same scanner with the workflow that fits them.
