Online Giving Mobile App > External Website Linkout with Single Sign-On (SSO) for Event Registrations and Group Sign-Ups

An update is now live that updates the Online Giving mobile application for Rock RMS churches to link out with single sign-on for Event Registrations and Group Sign-Ups instead of embedding the Rock RMS external website directly into the mobile application. The update keeps the same great shared authentication allowing the user to skip the login as long as they use the mobile application.

The update was required due to recent Google Chrome and Safari browser updates for Android and iOS devices that have placed 3rd party cookie restrictions into mobile apps which can cause framed websites to not have session persistence with cookies. Specifically, Safari and Google will now block (prevent) framed website cookies from being saved unless the framed website's cookie policy is "SameSite=None" and the cookie is Secure.

Unfortunately, at Rock RMS has yet to add full support for controlling the "SameSite" cookie policy for all of it's required cookies including the Rock RMS primary cookie "ASP.NET_SessionId". Rock RMS 10 added support for setting the "SameSite" cookie policy as a Global Attribute. However, our testing found that currently this global attribute is only being applied to the Rock RMS "last_site" cookie and not the primary cookie "ASP.NET_SessionId" used for the session management.

For this reason, we have applied a global update to the mobile application for Rock RMS churches. In the future, should Rock apply the "SameSite" cookie policy global attribute to all cookies we will update the mobile application to allow the framing of the Rock RMS external website once again.

It's important to note - You may need to close the open app on your device from the mobile device app switcher to view the latest changes. For iOS devices, swipe up and hold from the bottom of the screen to view app switcher (tasks manager), then swipe up on the open app to close, then open the app again to view the latest changes. For older iOS devices, double-tap the home button to view app switcher. For Android devices, tap the navigation button, then swipe up on the open app to close, then open the app again to view the latest changes.
